A dental nurse was twice over the alcohol limit when police saw her talking on her mobile phone while driving.

Sophie Ellwood would almost certainly have to explain herself to her professional body when she applied to renew her registration a judge was told.

Ellwood, 25, of Midgeland Road, Marton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol while using a mobile phone.

She was banned from the road for 15 months and fined £200 with £85 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said the incident happened on May 31 at 11.50pm. Steven Townley, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions and had fully co-operated with police. He said her employer was standing by her as the offence was out of character.
