Proposals to extend a care home to provide additional dementia care bedrooms have got the go-ahead.

Blackpool Council’s planning committee approved the application for a part two storey, part single storey extension at The Willows Care Home on Midgeland Road, Marton.

The scheme will form additional offices, a day room and 11 extra bedrooms.

Councillors were recommended to approve the plans, despite receiving two letters of objection.

But in a report to the committee, planners said the need for specialist accommodation overrode other factors.

The report added the proposal would make “a valuable contribution towards providing much needed, and high quality specialist housing
accommodation.”
