FITNESS fanatics have given the thumbs up to planned changes for leisure centres in Wyre.
YMCA gyms in Thornton, Poulton and Garstang are all set to receive a share of £7m from Wyre Council to extend, refurbish and add to their existing facilities.
Poulton Leisure Centre, in Breck Road, will be upgraded to receive a spa, new changing rooms and reception area in £1.7m of changes.
Mark Capstick, 51, of Leslie Avenue, Thornton, was taking advantage of the council’s consultation period to have his say on the plans at the Poulton gym.
He said: “It’s great it’s being extended.
“I particularly like this gym because it has a sauna and a steam room but once it gets a spa it’s going to be even bigger and better.
“They had a re-fit a year ago last August and that made a big change, but after seeing the latest plans it’s going to be great.”
Katy Farquhar, 18, of Warton Avenue, Thornton, said: “It’s great to get these facilities in Poulton.
“I’m impressed with the dance studio and the spa and they’ll get used the most by everyone coming here.”
Thornton Leisure Centre, on Victoria Road East, will have £3.4m spent on improving its existing services to include a ten pin bowling site, two artificial outdoor pitches, a new cafe and dance studio.
Mark Crayston, 32, of Riverside Drive, Hambleton, said: “I can use any of the three gyms with my membership but I’ll definitely be interested in going to Thornton to play football.
“I think it means more people will go to the area.
“It will be fantastic with ten pin bowling and the more facilities we get the better.”
The consultation period ends on November 30.
