A charitable group says it is delighted by the interest in plans to convert a landmark Fylde building into a community hub.

The Friends of St Annes Palace, a charitable group set up to promote the use of the headquarters of Lytham St Annes Freemasons, have been pleased with the response from organisations and individuals since the plan was revealed.

They say they are eagerly looking forward to an open day being held at the Garden Street venue this weekend.

More than 30 community groups will be represented at the open day, to be held on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Friends chairman John Burgess said: “We have been inundated with inquiries and bookings for rooms for meetings and for all kinds of leisure activities.

“Bookings have already been taken for large functions in the main hall, we are now pressing on with the provision of a community information centre in the market hall, and very much look forward to the open day.

“These groups will be represented are the heart and soul of our community, and as Masons we are privileged to support them in their work through the provision of these facilities at St Annes Palace.

“We would urge anyone in St Annes on Saturday to not miss the opportunity to visit this wonderful building, but see for themselves the groups represented.”

Saturday’s event will be opened by singer Anne Nolan.
