A world famous darts player has criticised a Fylde coast attraction for not including Fleetwood, Lytham or St Annes in its year round local discount scheme.

Blackpool Zoo only runs a 20 per cent discount policy for those living in the FY1 to FY5 area, leaving visitors from Fleetwood, Lytham or St Annes to pay the full price.

Wes ‘The Warrior’ Newton, from Fleetwood, was surprised to find his home town was not included in the cheap ticket system, and later took to Twitter to vent his frustration.

Mr Newton, who was visiting the zoo with his fiancee Stacey, 28, and son Fraser, two, tweeted: “You get discount at Blackpool Zoo if you’re local but Fleetwood doesn’t count, FY1 to FY5 only.”

He told The Gazette: “It should be a Fylde coast wide discount.

“They do it at The Sandcastle Water Park which covers all areas.”

Admission prices for the zoo are currently £15.50 for an adult aged 16 to 59-years-old and £11 for a child aged between three to 15-years-old.

Children under three get into the East Park Drive attraction for free and there is a10 per cent discount for everyone buying tickets online.

Mr Newton added: “I got a bit of stick on Twitter saying I didn’t need the discount, but it’s not about that.

“It’s the fact Fleetwood isn’t included because I consider it to be local.”

Della Belk, PR and marketing manager at Blackpool Zoo, said: “As part of our lease from Blackpool Council we offer a 20 per cent discount to Blackpool residents in the postcodes of FY1 to FY5.

“We extend this to the whole of the Fylde coast for one month per year and increase the discount to 50 per cent during this time.”
