THE company behind a controversial shale gas drilling operation on the Fylde Coast was responsible for the recent earthquakes.i
Cuadrilla Resources has said it “unequivocally accepts” the findings of an independent report, commissioned by Cuadrilla in consultation with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), published this morning, which concludes it is “highly probable” fracking at the Weeton site caused the tremors.
The report states the quakes were due to “an unusual combination of geology” at the well site but Cuadrilla has stressed there was no danger to local people.
The company, which also has sites in Singleton and Westby, now hopes the installation of a new warning system will allow them to continue their operations.
