Youngsters had the chance to try on life-saving equipment and meet the men and women who risk their lives to save others off the Fylde Coast.

However, visitors had an unexpected chance to see the volunteers in action first hand when the crew responded to a 999 call received by the coastguard about a sighting of three adults jumping from Central Pier.

The crowd watched astonished as Blackpool’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat and one of the D class boats were launched to rescue the three.

Once the boats returned, the crews carried on meeting visitors and telling thm about their work as rescuers.
