The victim, a local woman in her 20s, was approached by a man on Abingdon Street at around 3.30am. The two then walked onto the Promenade near to the cenotaph where the man sexually assaulted her.
The offender then took her handbag and ran off towards the Metropole Hotel. He is described as being around 5ft 8in tall and is thought to be in his late 20s. He had blonde hair and a medium to large build.

Det Sgt George Binns, from Blackpool CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed some or part of the incident to come forward and contact the police.
“I am keen to trace a man who assisted the victim shortly after the offender had taken the bag and ran off. I believe he may have witnessed some of the incident and it is important we track down this good Samaritan.”
