Detectives are investigating a serious assault on a 21-year-old woman in Blackpool.

At around 8am on Thursday, June 11, police were called to a room at the Regent Hotel in Springfield Road, where the woman from Cumbria was injured after being attacked by a man.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with significant head and facial injuries. Her condition is described as serious but stable.

DI Gareth Willis from Blackpool CID said: “This was a prolonged, violent assault on a young woman.

“Thankfully the hotel owner, along with some workmen who were renovating a nearby property, bravely intervened and restrained the man otherwise I fear this could have resulted in a fatality.”

A 35-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested at the scene on suspicion of S18 wounding with intent. He is currently in police custody.
