Woman in serious condition after ‘attempted murder’

A pensioner who was attacked in the street is in a serious condition in hospital, police say.

Detectives are treating the “serious assault” on Warbreck Hill Road as attempted murder.

Police were called to the scene, close to the junction with Devonshire Road, at around 10.30am today, where a 66-year-old woman was found with serious injuries.

A 65-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.

The road was closed for around three hours while police carried out inquiries.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Police were called at around 10.30am this morning following a report that a woman had been seriously assaulted in Warbreck Hill Road, Blackpool.

“A 66-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries where she remains in a serious condition.

“A 65-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

“A cordon is in place at the scene and enquiries are on-going.”
