A woman had her nose broken and her handbag stolen in a terrifying attack as she walked home from work in Blackpool.

Police today appealed for witnesses to come forward following the incident, which took place around 6pm on Monday.

The 47-year-old victim was walking along Warbreck Hill Road, near Gynn Gardens when she was approached by a man who grabbed her handbag from her shoulder.

The woman tried to keep hold of her bag but she was punched hard in the face by the man, causing her to fall backwards and hit her head on the ground.

The man then made off with her bag along Ormond Avenue.

The black handbag contained a Sony Xperia mobile phone with a pink metallic coloured back and a broken Samsung mobile phone.

Det Con Mark Anson, from Blackpool CID, said: “This was a nasty attack in which the victim suffered a broken nose which required surgery.”
