Two-year ban for nurse in drive case

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A NURSE caught driving barefoot in her dressing gown was almost three times over the alcohol limit.

Elaine Derome, 55, was stopped after police saw her driving at just 10mph.

Derome, of Bispham Road, Cleveleys, pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

Jenny Prendergast, prosecuting, said police saw Derome driving a Toyota very slowly on Healey Street, Blackpool, at about midnight on December 21.

She went over a speed ramp almost colliding with bollards at the roadside, before hitting the kerb, mounting the pavement and veering back across to other side of the road.

A blood test showed 226 milligrammes of alcohol in her body – 80 is the limit.

Paul Robinson, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, did not have an alcohol problem.

She was banned from the road for 24 months, fined £660 with £85 costs and £66 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
