A man has appeared at court charged with murdering a two year old girl described in tributes as “a little angel”.
Connor Gibson, 23, is alleged to have inflicted fatal head and liver injuries on the child.
Condolence messages left by friends and neighbours of victim Kacey Hambleton said she was “Heaven’s brightest star” and a “beautiful girl”.
Gibson of Melrose Avenue, Blackpool, appeared before Blackpool magistrates today.
Chairman of the bench Clifford Boynton sent the case direct to Preston Crown Court, where Gibson is due to appear tomorrow. He was remanded in custody until then.
Fifteen members of his family and friends watched from the public gallery as Gibson, dressed in a black T-shirt, made a three minute appearance in the dock.
He stood flanked by security officers and did not speak.
Martine Connah, prosecuting, asked for him to be remanded in custody.
Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending, did not ask for bail.
Kacey, who lived with her 23-year-old mother and one year old sister, died on Saturday at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
She was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Thursday, after paramedics were called to her home on Granby Avenue, Layton. She was later taken by air ambulance to Liverpool.
Kacey’s mother was arrested in connection with the child’s death and was released on police bail until July 8.
