Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A tip-off to police that a car was being driven erratically in Blackpool resulted in a drunken driver being arrested.

Sean Stokes, 29, of Victoria Road, Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol without insurance and not in accordance with his learner’s licence.

He was banned from the road for three years and fined £225 with £85 costs plus £23 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Evans, prosecuting, said police got information a Vauxhall Astra was being driven erratically on August 11 about 9.30pm.

Police stopped the car on Cherry Tree Road. A breath test showed 54 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

The defence said Stokes was on holiday in the resort and after having something to drink, foolishly decided to drive a short distance.
