Thieves prompt security review

SECURITY has been stepped up at a £1.5m development after metal thieves targeted the site.

CCTV has been put in place at Copse Road, Fleetwood, where Wyre Council is building its new base for waste services.

And thieves and vandals have been warned to stay away as demolition at the site gets under way.

A council spokesman said: “It is a dangerous site and anyone trespassing there puts themselves at risk of harm.”

Wyre Council recently appointed R P Tyson Construction Ltd to deliver the design and build phase of the project.

Coun Peter Murphy, cabinet member with responsibility for refuse collection, recycling and street cleaning at Wyre Council said: “The existing buildings at the site were no longer fit for use, so a purpose-built depot for all our skills and trades is ideal.

“A single base will be much more cost effective to run and will allow our teams to operate more efficiently.”

Teams that normally operate from the Copse Road site have been temporarily relocated and spread out across existing council assets.
