A gang of careless thieves who raided a garage three times in an hour failed to spot they were being filmed the whole time.

The group can be seen ducking to avoid being spotted through a neighbour’s window and one even appears to have painted his face to avoid being recognised – but none of them notice the red light of a CCTV camera that captured their every move.

Now Blackpool resident Mick Rose is warning homeowners to be vigilant after more than £2,000 of equipment was taken from his garage.

He put up the camera at his Claremont Road home in the hope it would deter thieves after being burgled just over a year ago.

He said: “It’s annoying – the worst thing is watching them come up the drive. They just don’t care.

“It’s very frightening when you see them walk up like that – it’s only a metter of coming through the gate and they could be in the house.

“But I’m more bothered about other people. Hopefully seeing this might put people’s guards up.”

The thieves took a range of power tools – including a welder, drills and saws – as well as Christmas presents Mr Rose was storing in the garage.

The CCTV footage shows the thieves making three trips to the garage in the early hours of December 22.

Mr Rose added: “I became self-employed as an electrician after I retired from BAE three years ago.

“I’m lucky because I decided to go back to work in September, otherwise this would have stopped me dead in my tracks. It would have been a real problem.”

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We are investigating a burglary where the offenders have gone to the garage and taken items with a total value of £2,200.”
