Thief, 32, turns to soup team for help

A woman caught stealing meat was now recovering from a drug addiction a court was told.

Jennifer Berdica, 32, of Ansdell Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to theft.

She was given a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Martine Connah, said Berdica was stopped outside Marks and Spencer after stealing £20 of meat from the store on May 11. She said she had intended to sell the meat for money.

David Charnley, defending, said at one time Berdica had been using heroin, methadone and crack cocaine.

Recently she had gone to the resort’s Amazing Grace Soup Kitchen were she met people who helped addicts. She had gone through detoxification and at present was clean of drugs and sober.
