A flat tenant sold his landlord’s electric fire when he was moving away from Blackpool, a magistrates’ court was told.

Andrew Bamford, 42, of Wood Street, Hollingworth, Cheshire, pleaded guilty to theft.

He was given a 12 months’ conditional discharge and ordered to pay £99 compensation plus £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, said when Bamford was leaving a rented flat in the resort’s John Street he took the electric fire from his apartment and sold it on January 17.

Steven Townley, defending, told magistrates that Bamford said he needed money to relocate, so he sold some of his things and the fire on a buy-back scheme.

He had hoped to buy the fire back later.
