POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was allegedly grabbed as she walked down the street.

The 15-year-old girl was walking alone along Hatfield Road, in Fleetwood, when she was assaulted by a man after he crossed the road close to Tesco Express.

The incident is believed to have happened at around 4.40pm last Tuesday, March 26, as the girl walked towards the Westview roundabout.

Police have launched an investigation and said the girl – who ran off after being grabbed – was “extremely frightened” by the incident.

PC Danny Farrell, from Fleetwood Police, said: “I’d reassure people that incidents of this nature are very rare and an investigation is underway. The intentions of the man are unknown at this stage but the young girl was understandably extremely frightened and ran away.

“I’d appeal to anybody who witnessed this incident to come forward and contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log reference LC-20130326-0901.”

A 22-year-old man from Fleetwood has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in relation to the incident and is currently on police bail pending further inquiries.
