A TEENAGER has been charged with arson following a flat fire in central Blackpool.

Daniel Casey, 18, from Saville Road, South Shore, has made his first appearance at Blackpool Magistrates Court following the fire on Reads Avenue on Tuesday evening.

Crews from Blackpool fire station were called to the three-storey corner building just before midnight.

Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning building and used a hose reel to put the fire out.

The fire caused severe damage to a settee. There was also heat and smoke damage to the lounge and moderate smoke damage to the remainder of the flat.

Casey was remanded in custody to appear before Preston Crown Court on November 19.
