TWO students have described the frightening moment they were beaten by two men and then robbed during a shocking street attack.

The pair, aged 20 and 19, who are studying at Blackpool and The Fylde College, were knocked to the ground and punched around the head and face before being dragged into an alleyway and then robbed.

They were on their way to a town centre bar when they were set upon by two men in Central Drive, close to the George Pub.

The attackers forced the students into an alleyway on Ribble Road and demanded they empty their pockets.

One of the students, who asked not to be named, said: “It was very frightening.

“We were on our way to Walkabout in town and we were minding our own business when the two men suddenly approached us and asked where we were from. They attacked both of us physically. I was pushed to the ground and kicked in the face. We were in a very secluded area and it was badly lit, so it could have been worse because there was no-one around to help us.”

A Blackberry mobile phone and £30 in cash was stolen by the robbers.

His 19-year-old, who also did not wish to be named, said: “I was punched about four times in the face and on the side of my head.

“It was pretty frightening and just happened out of the blue. It was totally unprovoked.”

The pair went to hospital the next day to be checked over and treated for cuts and bruises.

Police have now released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to in connection with the robbery, which happened at around 11.45pm on Saturday October 7.

Det Sgt Simon Pritchard, from Blackpool CID, urged anyone with information about the robbery to contact the police.

He said: “I would appeal to anyone who recognises these two men to come forward and contact the police.

“This is a nasty unprovoked attack on two innocent men who were simply going about their business.

“The two people responsible for this need to be caught and dealt with.”

The first attacker is described as white, approximately six feet tall with a stocky build and very short fair hair.

He had a northern accent and was wearing a light grey or white fleece, which may have had a square pattern on it.

The second man is described as being white, between 5ft 10in and 5ft 11in tall with short brown hair and has a slim build.

He also had a northern accent and was wearing a light brown hooded top and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Blackpool Police on 101.

Alternatively, call the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
