Struggling mum stole presents

Blackpool Magistrates' Court

Blackpool Magistrates' Court

A single mother-of-three stole presents for a Secret Santa from two stores.

Helen Seaton,48, of Clifton Street, Lytham, pleaded guilty to two offences of theft.

She was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £15 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Pamela Baldwin sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Seaton went into the Pandora shop, Blackpool, on December 17, looked at three pairs of earrings and bought one pair.

Staff then realised one pair of earrings was missing and alerted town centre security staff.

Security officers in TK Maxx recognised Seaton from the description which had been given and monitored her by CCTV. She walked out with £104 of items including a mobile phone cover, nail accessories and a photograph frame. When interviewed she said she was short of money and needed presents for a Secret Santa.

Steven Townley, defending, said Seaton was a nail technician who was trying to start her own business. She was struggling financially and suffered from anxiety and depression.
