A man under stress after he split up from his seriously ill partner stole a total of £254 of meat from a supermarket.
David Ogg, 46, of Newhouse Road, Marton, pleaded guilty to four offences of theft.
He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £197 compensation by District Judge James Prowse sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
Pam Smith, prosecutor, said on January 7 Ogg was caught stealing meat from Blackpool’s B&M Bargains.
Checks revealed he had stolen meat from the shop on three other occasions in November. He told police he intended selling the meat to get cash to help out with his finances.
Patrick Nelligan, defending, said Ogg and his partner had been together 15 years.
She became very ill and had to go to hospital for dialysis. This caused a lot of strain on the family, he said.
