A SON turned to crime to get presents for his mum on Mothers’ Day, a court was told.

Darren Hood, of Lytham Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to stealing £97 worth of skin care products from national chain Boots in Blackpool town centre.

And before sentencing the 40-year-old, District Judge Alan Jones told him: “I’m sure your mother would prefer not to get a present, rather than see you in court.”

Nicola Corney, prosecuting, said a security guard at Boots in the town centre reported seeing Hood taking the goods off the shelves and hiding them about his person in his clothing at about 5pm on March 16.

Kathryn Edwards, defending, said the offence was a blip for Hood who stole the skin care products for his mother, as he had nothing to give her for a present on Mothers Day.

The defendant was given a nine months conditional discharge by District Judge Jones sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

He was also ordered to pay £40 costs.
