A security guard helped detain a would-be robber after he threatened a female shop assistant with a saw and demanded money.
The robber entered Zee Convenience Store on Church Street, Blackpool, at about noon on Friday and asked for money from the till.
But the security guard, who had called in at the shop to buy a drink, stepped in and grabbed the robber before he could do any harm.
The police were called to the scene and arrested a 17-year-old male.
The 26-year-old shop assistant, who asked not to be named, said: “He came inside and looked around and then came up to the counter and demanded I open the till.
“I was very scared and I am still scared now.
“He swore and told me he needed money and ordered me to hand some over
“A security man came into the shop to buy a drink and saw what was happening and he grabbed him.
“I was very lucky and very grateful to this man for what he did.”
A youth was taken to Blackpool Central Police Station for questioning.
He was later charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon, and appeared before Blackpool magistrates on Saturday.
