A man who was repeatedly stabbed with a pair of scissors is “lucky” to be alive, police today said.
The 30-year-old victim is in a serious condition in hospital after being subjected to a vicious assault in Blackpool.
There was a heavy police presence on Sutherland Road, North Shore, as detectives investigated the incident, which occurred at around 7.30am.
Officers were called to a house where it is thought an argument had turned violent.
A 49-year-old man from Blackpool, understood to be a relative of the victim, was tonight in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Det Sgt Mark Dickinson, of Blackpool CID, said: “The victim is being treated at Royal Preston Hospital for multiple stab wounds all over his upper body.
“He is stable and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
“It could have been a lot worse.”
Police have recovered a pair of scissors from the scene which are thought to have been used in the attack.
Det Sgt Dickinson added: “We have arrested a 49-year-old man from Blackpool on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.”
A decision over whether to charge him is likely to be made on Saturday.
