A man on a night out in Blackpool to cheer him up after a relationship break-up was more than twice over the limit when arrested by police.

Scott Duncuft, 34, of Patterdale Avenue, Ashton-under-Lyne, admitted drink-driving.

He was banned from the road for 18 months and fined £110 with £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Nicola Corney, prosecuting, said police stopped Duncuft’s Fiesta on the resort’s Garstang Road West because they thought he was speeding on January 12 at 2.10am.

A breath test showed he had 87 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

Duncuft told magistrates he had been through a bad break-up of a relationship.

He had come to the resort with friends for a night out and was looking for a hotel when he was stopped by police.
