Soldier’s drink drive shame

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A SERVING soldier who crashed his car has admitted he had been drinking at the time.

Lance Corporal Mark Booth was back in his home town of Fleetwood on two weeks’ leave from the Army - where he was serving with troops in Afghanistan - when the collision happened.

The 29-year-old crashed outside the Cala Gran holiday park, in Fleetwood, and police were called by a witness who saw the incident.

Booth admitted to officers he had been driving the car, and a breath test showed he had been drinking.

And at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court the soldier, from Hathaway, Fleetwood, admitted he had been “stupid” as he pleaded guilty.

He told magistrates: “It was a stupid thing to do.

“I drive in my job in the Army.”

The resort’s magistrates banned Booth from driving for a year.

He was also ordered to pay £492 in fines and costs.
