A shocked home owner phoned police when he saw two men acting suspiciously on his roof.
Police investigated and discovered lead had been stolen from the roof of the property in Blackpool.
Andrew Dixon, 24, of Rusland Avenue, Mereside, who works as a landscaper, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods.
He was fined £200 with £85 costs and ordered to pay a £180 court charge plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said a man and his wife saw two men on the roof of their property on Westmorland Avenue on May 19. The men were climbing in and out of a flat window.
Police were alerted and when they searched the flat they found a quantity of lead flashing under a sofa bed.
Hugh Pond, defending, said Dixon and others were celebrating a birthday. The other man had stolen the lead from the roof. Dixon was drunk and he had been persuaded to take the lead.
