A man who was subjected to a “prolonged and nasty” attack is recovering well in hospital as police continue to hunt for his attacker.

The 31-year-old man was found unconscious on Princess Parade, on the promenade at Blackpool, at around 6.15pm last Tuesday.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene by the Grand Metropole Hotel and a heli-ambulance was scrambled to take the victim to Royal Preston Hospital.

The man, who lives locally, is now said to be recovering well in hospital, having suffered a facial fracture but no life-changing injuries.

Det Inspt Lukmaan Mulla said: “He was attacked by a single male but it was a prolonged, violent attack.

“He is walking and talking and has no life changing injuries so we’re progressing with inquiries.

“He has a facial fracture and minor lacerations and bruises to his upper body.”

Police have said passersby saw the victim being attacked by another man, who then fled the scene.

It is believed to be an isolated incident.

Det Insp Mulla said: “This was a very nasty attack.”
