Prisoner in breach of the peace

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A PRISONER was described as showering hospital staff with vile abuse when he was taken there for treatment.

Christopher Farrar, 24, of Shipley Road, St Annes, admitted breach of the peace and he was bound over in the sum of £100 for 12 months by District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Stephen Burns, prosecuting, said Farrar was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital in the early hours of October 16 where his behaviour was said to be unsavoury from the start. Farrar was repeatedly abusive to medics and despite one staff nurse asking him to stop several times, he carried on.

The prosecutor added: “He showered staff with abusive and foul language. Even the presence of the police did not stop him.”

Farrar told the judge he had been pepper-sprayed and then arrested, but while he was in the cells at Blackpool Police Station he developed breathing problems and was taken to the hospital.

Farrar added: “I don’t recall anything after being pepper-sprayed and arrested.”
