The Independent Police Complaints Commission has ruled it will not investigate the death of a Blackpool man on the M6.

Ross Waters, 33, died after being hit by a car on the M6 near Charnock Richard.

A spokesman for the IPCC said: “This investigation has now been passed to Lancashire Police to carry out.”

Police launched the pursuit after an incident in Montague Street where a car was driven at a woman.

Officers followed Waters as he reached speeds of 100mph as he travelled along the M55 and M6 in a grey Ford Focus Sport.

The chase only came to an end when Waters was hit by a car after he abandoned his vehicle on the hard shoulder.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “An investigation is now underway.”
