A HIT TV series which thrust Blackpool’s emergency services into the spotlight will not return to the county after a dramatic u-turn.

It had already been confirmed a second series of channel 4 show 999 What’s Your Emergency? would not be filmed in the resort – but Lancashire Police had been in talks with producers over taking the hit concept to another town.

But now, after fears were raised by councillors in the potential locations of both Preston and Blackburn, the force has revealed it has “regrettably” decided not to be involved in series two.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “On reflection, we have had to take the very difficult decision of withdrawing our involvement as we do not wish to jeopardise our on-going relationships with those agencies and recognise the potential to damage the reputation of an area might outweigh any potential benefit to the Constabulary the series might bring.”

Pat Francioni, who runs The Alumburst Hotel, on Charnley Road, Blackpool, said she wishes a similar decision had been taken before it was filmed in Blackpool.

She added: “I think this is a good decision.

“As much as I applaud the emergency services (the programme was) showing the whole of the county in a negative light and I think there are better ways of dealing with praise for the emergency services.”
