A young teenage girl was forced to flee after she was approached by a man on her way home from school.

Police are investigating and have stepped up patrols after reports the 13-year-old was approached by a man in Jean Stansfield Memorial Park, off Vicarage Road, Poulton.

The girl was walking home from Hodgson Academy at around 3.30pm on Monday, February 10, when a man engaged her in conversation.

He then took hold of her arm but she managed to free herself and ran off. The offender then ran off towards the railway station on Breck Road.

The man is described as white, 6ft 2ins, with white hair and a white moustache. He was wearing a black jacket, jeans and muddy trainers.

A police spokesman said: “While we believe this is an isolated incident we are treating it very seriously.

“We are investigating the circumstances and the girl is being interviewed by specailist detectives.

“Extra patrols are being put on in the area for reassurance.”
