Police are investigating a suspected firearms incident on St Heliers Road, South Shore.

Police are investigating reports a gun was fired on a Blackpool street.

Shocked residents reported hearing a gun shot ring out late last night on a residential road in Blackpool.

Police tape is up outside a home on St Heliers Road, South Shore, where a broken window can be seen.

Detectives say it is too early to confirm whether a gun was fired but have not ruled it out. Nobody was hurt in the incident, which occurred late on Thursday night.

Det Insp Gareth Willis said: “There was an incident just before midnight. The investigation is in its infancy and we cannot confirm reports that a firearm was discharged.

“Nobody was injured in the incident and there have been no arrests so far.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Willis added: “We are still trying to establish if indeed a firearm was discharged at the address and are conducting house to house enquiries as well as a forensic examination of the area. We are also in the process of identifying any potential CCTV to aid this investigation.

“I would like to reassure local residents that whilst incidents of this type are rare, we have a team of detectives investigating and additional patrols have been deployed in the area.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
