Two muggers who pushed a woman to the ground and tried to steal her bag are thought to be as young as 10 years old, police said today.
Officers have launched an appeal after the pair tried to snatch the victim’s bag as she lay on the ground in Park Road, Blackpool.
They knocked her over in their failed robbery attempt, which happened at around 4.50pm on Tuesday.
The victim was left shaken but unhurt by the incident and investigations are now
underway to trace the would-be robbers.
Police have searched through CCTV footage in the area and are now appealing for any witness to the incident to come forward.
Det Con Andy Gilmour, of Blackpool CID, said: “This is a serious incident that happened in broad daylight.
“There were no threats made. The victim has been pushed to the ground and they have attempted to take her bag.
“Fortunately, she did not suffer any injuries.”
The boys are both described as white and aged between 10 and 14.
Det Sgt Mark Dickinson said: “Sadly we do get 10, 11 and 12-year-olds doing street robberies. They will only get worse in my experience.”
Police have issued a CCTV image of two boys they want to speak to as part of their investigations. Although it does not show them clearly, one is seen to be wearing a distinctive orange top.
Det Con Gilmour said he hoped someone would have seen the boys and be able to help police identify them.
He added: “They are two males seen in the area that we would like to speak to. I would urge anybody who saw anything to get in touch with police.”
Anybody with information is asked to call 101.
