Police hunt gang who attacked man with weapons

A man was beaten with pieces of wood by a group of men who chased him down the street, police have said.

Detectives have released a description of one man they are hunting after the alleged assault in the early hours of Saturday.

The offenders have chased the victim and cornered him in the front garden of a nearby property, where they have attacked him with weapons.

A 21-year-old man was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital following the attack on Devonshire Road, at around 3.30am.

The victim was close to the Farmfoods store when he was attacked with items taken from nearby gardens, before the alleged offenders ran off towards Talbot Road.

Det Sgt Mark Dickinson, of Blackpool CID, said: “We are investigating an assault on a lone male who was walking along Devonshire Road in the early hours of Saturday.

“He was cornered and attacked by a group of three or four males.

“The offenders have chased the victim and cornered him in the front garden of a nearby property, where they have attacked him with weapons.

“They have used some pieces of wood and possibly some metal poles taken from nearby gardens.

“He suffered some nasty cuts and bruises to the head and body, which required hospital treatment.”

The victim has since been discharged from hospital.

Police are hunting a man aged between 20 and 30 in connection with the attack. He is described as white, of a stocky build and with short blonde hair that is cropped at the back and sides.

A 19-year-old man from Blackpool has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a weapon.

A 22-year-old man from Blackpool was also been arrested on Sunday in connection with the alleged assault and remains in custody.
