An arson probe has been launched into a blaze that forced residents out of their homes in the early hours of the morning.

Police have arrested a 30-year-old man from Blackpool on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at a block of flats on Luton Road, Anchorsholme yesterday.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at around 5.30am and four flats had to be evacuated. The other two flats in the block were empty at the time.

Police were then called to the scene after the cause of the fire was ruled suspicious.

Detectives were yesterday quizzing the man, who was arrested shortly after the blaze was reported.

Det Sgt Kathryn Riley, of Blackpool CID, said: “We had crime scene investigators and fire services at the scene yesterday.

“There were no casualties, but there were people inside who had to be evacuated.”
