A shop assistant was threatened by two men wielding a knife in a terrifying armed robbery.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward after the men armed with a knife threatened the 31-year-old during a robbery at the Gazette Newsagents on Lytham Road, Blackpool.

Two men entered the shop, with their faces covered, at around 11.15pm on Thursday, October 31, although Lancashire Police only revealed details of the incident on Tuesday evening, November 5.

The pair jumped over the counter and threatened the lone shop worker, causing him to lock himself in a rear room fearing for his safety.

The offenders made attempts to get to the shop assistant before taking money from the till and cigarettes.

They then left the shop through the front door back onto Lytham Road, near to the junction with Bloomfield Road.

The two men are described as white, slim build and approximately 5’8 tall.

One man was wearing a dark tracksuit with a large white logo across the chest and the second was wearing a dark tracksuit with three white Adidas stripes down each arm.

PC Sarah Houldsworth, from Blackpool CID, said: “The shop assistant was understandably left very shaken following this incident but luckily was not hurt.”

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101.
