A man has been jailed for five years and 10 months and told he will have to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life after video of a young girl being molested was found on his phone.

Jonathan Vincent Scott, 27, from Thornton, pleaded guilty to causing a child under the age of 13 years to engage in sexual activity in September 2015, and was sentenced at Preston Crown Court today.

Scott is clearly a dangerous and manipulative individual and the sentence given today reflects the gravity of this horrendous crime

He will have to serve at least two thirds of his jail term before he is eligible to apply for parole.

Scott was also given an extended five-year licence on release and will be subject to a lifetime on the Sex Offenders’ Register and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The crime was uncovered following an investigation by Blackpool Police’s Awaken Team and the Public Protection Unit.

Scott was arrested in February 2015 and analysis of a mobile phone showed a video of a girl believed to be aged between four and five years being abused.

Det Con Mark Hartley, from the Awaken team, said: “Scott is clearly a dangerous and manipulative individual and the sentence given today reflects the gravity of this horrendous crime.

“The Awaken team and all at Lancashire Constabulary remain absolutely committed to tackling all forms of child sexual abuse and to protecting the most vulnerable in our society and I would encourage anyone who has been, or knows someone who has been, sexually abused, groomed or exploited to come forward and contact police confident in the knowledge they will be dealt with sensitively and professionally.”
