Pepper spray man bailed

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A MAN who assaulted someone in a takeaway ended up having to be pepper sprayed as police officers tried desperately to restrain him.

Philip Roberts punched another man on the nose in Luigi’s takeaway, on Dickson Road, Blackpool, last month.

Blackpool Magistrates Court heard yesterday the 43-year-old, of Eaves Street, North Shore, had been abusive, thrown the punch and then walked off, ignoring a police officer’s request to stop.

He threw off the officer’s arm and was pepper sprayed after lashing out at the officer.

It took three police officers to restrain him.

Unemployed Roberts admitting assaulting the man and resisting arrest when he appeared at the court.

Steven Townley, defending, said Roberts’ victim had been complaining about something in the takeaway when Roberts walked in at around 4.30am on January 3.

The defendant asked him to keep the noise down and a row broke, and Mr Townley said Roberts’ threw a punch because he thought he was going to be attacked.

Roberts was bailed for pre-sentence reports by the magistrates.
