Detectives are appealing for information after an elderly holidaymaker suffered a broken wrist during a terrifying street robbery in Blackpool town centre.
A thief snatched the handbag of the 83-year-old woman as she walked back to her hotel on Cocker Square.
Police said the woman was targeted by a man as she walked along Cocker Street.
The robber pulled her handbag from her grasp with sufficient force to knock her to the ground, causing her to break her wrist during the fall.
The man then ran off quickly across the Promenade towards the Metropole Hotel and the beach.
A good Samaritan who witnessed the robbery tried to chase the thief for a short distance but he got away.
The incident took place at around 6.10pm on Thursday.
Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
The man is described as white, between 16 and 30 years old with dark hair.
Police said the holidaymaker was left “very shaken” by the incident and has returned home to Oxfordshire.
Det Sgt Mark Dickinson, from Blackpool CID, said: “We believe a number of passers-by saw the man running away and pointed out his direction of travel to the witness who gave chase.
“Blackpool CID is investigating and would urge anyone who may have seen this man or who has information regarding his identity to contact Det Con Sean Burrell immediately by calling 101 and quoting log number LC-20131024-1210.
“The victim was very shaken by the incident but has been treated for her injuries and has now travelled back to her home in Oxfordshire.”
