A BLACKPOOL police officer has been suspended amid claims he was supplying drugs.

PC Thomas Hatton was arrested after suspicions arose he was distributing Class C drugs, namely steroids.

The 24-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He has now been released on bail until June 15 pending further inquires.

PC Hatton is a section officer based at Bispham police station.

He is a well known local footballer and played for local Sunday Alliance football team AFC Bloomfield – previously known as Ashiana – until recently.

Rory Davies, spokesman for AFC Bloomfield, said: “As far as I know, no-one in the team is aware of this.

“He played on and off.

“He’s a police officer so he played when he could – I think the last time was around Christmas.”

The Crown Prosecution Service said they had not been made aware of the arrest and did not yet know if the officer’s conduct had affected any cases.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “A 24-year-old man was arrested on April 20 on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, attempting to pervert the course of justice and being concerned in the supply of a Class C drug.

“He is currently on police bail until June 15.

“The arrested man is a serving police officer based in Western Division.

“He has been suspended.”
