Three police officers were assaulted as they tried to arrest a person who was “like a man possessed.”
One of the officers involved in the incident on Park Road in Blackpool said she had never experienced such a violent incident in five years in the force.
Steven Molyneaux, 33, of Powell Avenue, Blackpool admitted assaulting two male officers and a female officer in December last year. He was jailed for 10 weeks.
Sentencing Molyneaux, prison chairman of bench at Blackpool Magistrates Court, Barry Birch told him: “You have a horrendous record of violence and firearms offences.
“This was an extremely serious assault involving a prolonged attack. It is completely unacceptable. You were out of control.”
Martine Connah, prosecuting, said that police were seeking to arrest Molyneaux on other matters.
They went to his brother’s flat on Park Road. They started to search the premises and Molyneaux jumped out at them from a cupboard under the stairs.
He pushed one officer and started to hit him and then turned his attention to a second policeman, hitting him with ferocity, and what the prosecutor said was a frenzied attack.
He then kicked out at a third officer injuring her finger.
The prosecutor said: “The officers said that Molyneaux had acted like a man possessed screaming and shouting.”
Molyneaux said he had been drinking that night and had also taken amphetamine and crack cocaine.
His sentence would be added to the jail term Molyneaux was currently serving on other offences.
