A nursing home manager has made her first appearance in court charged with defrauding a vulnerable brain damaged resident.

Elizabeth Richardson, 55, is accused of abusing her position of trust at the Brooklands Nursing Home, Roundhay, Marton, which specialises in looking after patients with brain damage.

The charge she faces alleges that she was expected to safeguard the interests of a vulnerable patient but instead cheated him out of £7,946.20 between June 2011 and October 2012.

Richardson, of Little Poulton Lane, Poulton, denied the offence when she appeared before District Judge Rod Ross sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

The judge ruled the case must be heard at Preston Crown Court.

Richardson was granted unconditional bail.

She is due to appear at the higher court on August 15.
