A TEENAGE girl was brutally stabbed before being set alight.
Police have today revealed 16-year-old Sasha Marsden died as a result of “significant” stab wounds to her head and face.
And officers have been granted a further 36 hours to question the 22-year-old man who is in custody on suspicion of her murder.
A 20-year-old woman who was also arrested yesterday has been released without charge,
Following a Home Office post mortem examination, which took place last night, police have also been confirmed attempts were made to set Sasha’s body on fire, but this happened after the teenager died.
A police spokesman said: “The results have been shared with the family and specially trained officers are continuing to support them.”
Sasha’s burning body was discovered by hoteliers in an alleyway behind Kirby Road, in South Shore, on Thursday night.
The Blackpool and the Fylde College student, from Staining, has been described as a “friendly and considerate” student who was making “fantastic progress” on her childcare course.
