TWO men accused of battering a man at a house party who later died in hospital have made their first appearance at court.
Ryan Calvert, aged 20, of Dean Street, and Shaun Dolan, aged 22, of no fixed address, both of Blackpool, are charged with the murder of Thomas Poole (pictured).
The defendants were flanked in the secure dock by security officers and spoke only to give their personal details during the five minute hearing in front of a packed public gallery.
Prosecutor, Jane Yates, asked for the case to be sent direct to crown court and the defendants remanded in custody.
Defence solicitor, Brett Chappell, for Calvert, said his client would plead not guilty to the offence and would apply for bail at crown court. Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending Dolan, said her client would not indicate a plea to the charge at this stage.
The defendants were remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on January 17 by Blackpool magistrates.
Mr Poole, aged 23, of Preston New Road, Blackpool, was found with head injuries on Saturday after a house party in the resort’s Ribble Road.
He died in Blackpool’s Victoria Hospital 90 minutes after police were called to the scene about 8am. A post mortem showed Mr Poole died of head injuries.
