‘Muppet’ insult led to car attack

A landscape gardener smashed two windows of a car his friend was driving after he was called a “muppet”.

Bee-Jay Latham was wearing a plaster cast on his arm when he punched the windows.

Latham, 24, of Grafton Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was given a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £230 compensation with £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Owen Jones sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court. Alison Quanbrough, prosecuting, said Latham was a passenger in an Audi being driven by a friend on November 23. It was the friend’s mother’s car.

After a row Latham got out and hit a side-window and the rear window. Latham said his friend owed him money and had called him a muppet.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, told the judge Latham said there had been problems between himself and his friend that day, but they had made up.
