A mother was found drunk on Blackpool Promenade at night with her six-year-old son who was shivering with cold.
Claire Millar was unsteady on her feet and crying and her son was dressed only in swimming trunks with a towel draped over him.
Millar, a 25-year-old mother-of-two, of Elton Street, Ashton, Preston, pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a child.
She was sentenced to nine months supervision and ordered to pay £60 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Alan Jones sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
Alison Quanbrough, prosecuting, said police received a tip-off a drunken woman was outside the Albert and Lion pub on the resort’s Promenade on July 28 at 8.20pm.
An officer found Millar crying and her eyes were glazed. It was the officer’s opinion she was drunk.
She had a previous conviction for being drunk in charge of her son in 2010
Scott Parker, defending, said Millar visited the resort around the day of her son’s birthday and took him to Blackpool Tower as a treat.
There was a bar and unfortunately Millar had more drinks than she should have.
Afterwards the boy was playing in a water fountain before they went to the Promenade.
The court heard the child came to no harm.
