A man gave a shoulder to cry on to a woman whose baby son died tragically in an accident.
David Lester, 45, took the woman for a drink in Poulton. But when he drove her home he was over the limit and when police became involved he became aggressive with the officer and would not complete the breath test procedure properly.
Lester, a web site designer, admitted failing to provide a sample of breath when he appeared before Blackpool Magistrates.
He was banned from the road for two years, placed on an eight week curfew and ordered to pay £145 costs.
Alan Godwin, defending, said: ““He did have a virus at the time he was arrested but accepts that did not stop him giving a test.”
“He also accepts he behaviour was below the standards expected.”
